Behind the Game
CHAIN: Silly Balls How a Simple Idea Became a Fun Puzzle Arcade Game
One simple idea. One bouncing ball. Countless chain reactions. And a whole lot of fun.
By Rydl Games

That’s how the story of CHAIN: Silly Balls, a mobile arcade game with puzzle-like thinking developed by independent studio Rydl Games, began. Behind its colorful visuals, bouncing balls, combinations and satisfying arcade action lies more than just another mobile game.
CHAIN: Silly Balls was created with one clear vision: combine simple controls, strategic thinking and the pure joy of playing into a game approachable to people with different levels of gaming experience. The result is a free-to-play Android game with quick entertainment, increasingly challenging stages and meaningful progression. But how did it all begin?
Every Great Game Starts With a Simple Idea
Our original concept was surprisingly simple: create a mobile game that players understand in seconds, but can enjoy for much longer. Modern games can be packed with complicated mechanics, tutorials and demanding systems. We wanted a different approach: something accessible for a short break, when relaxing at home, or simply when in the mood for fun. No unnecessary complexity, just play.
The foundation became a bouncing ball. Players launch a ball into an arena with enemies, obstacles and opportunities for long combinations. Each bounce can lead to another hit; one well-chosen shot can begin an amazing series of hits. That is where the name CHAIN came from.
What started as a single playful mechanic grew into an arcade experience built around planning, timing, progress and satisfying chain reactions.
Where Puzzle Thinking Meets Arcade Action
One of the most important development goals was easy-to-learn gameplay that still rewards smart decisions. CHAIN: Silly Balls is not only about tapping and watching things happen. Players think about the direction of a shot, enemy positions, possible rebounds and how to create the best chain.
Sometimes precision matters, sometimes planning; an unexpected bounce can also surprise the player. This balance between strategy and arcade unpredictability makes the game fun. Easy to learn. Fun to master. Satisfying to play.
Newcomers can enjoy the basic controls, while advanced players experiment with longer chains and stronger strategies. It brings together accessible arcade action and the thoughtfulness of a puzzle game.
“Easy to learn. Fun to master. Satisfying to play.”
Why ‘Silly Balls’?
The name Silly Balls reflects its playful personality. We did not want an overly serious or complicated game. We wanted something that can bring a smile to a player’s face. The design emphasizes colorful visuals, funny enemies, energetic animations, satisfying hits and responsive gameplay feedback.
Every successful shot should feel rewarding, every defeated enemy should register, and a strong chain should feel like a real achievement. This informed both visuals and sound design: lively impacts, reward sounds, music and occasional voice elements. Special MASTER moments celebrate particularly successful play. A great chain deserves to feel awesome.
Building the Game With Godot
CHAIN: Silly Balls was developed in the Godot game engine. Building a mobile game means far more than programming ball movement. Physics, collision detection, different enemy behaviors, balancing, stage progression, user interface, animations, audio, rewards, saving progress and mobile optimization all have to work together.
The difficulty curve needed special attention: too easy is dull, too hard immediately is discouraging. We revisited early stages, adjusted enemies and improved the progression curve. The opening stages introduce how the game works and build confidence; later stages introduce new challenges.
Controls and UI were repeatedly refined for phone screens. The goal: less frustration, more fun.
The Magic of Chain Reactions
The core is chaining hits. Launch a ball and watch it bounce from target to target through the arena. A well-chosen move can lead to several consecutive hits; sometimes an ordinary bounce creates a surprising run.
This is what makes a satisfying loop: can the next shot go further? Could a different angle do more damage? Could one clever decision change the result? Each attempt encourages experimentation and learning. The game combines the immediate thrill of arcade action with a little problem-solving.
“One shot can change everything.”

Different Enemies, Bosses and New Challenges
To keep the game fresh, we introduced enemy variety. Some enemy types have shields, different behaviors or special mechanics; stronger enemies and bosses introduce extra difficulty. Players need to adapt rather than rely on the same move every time.
Sometimes the best approach is to target a particular enemy. At other times it’s more effective to aim for a longer chain. Gradual difficulty growth offers a reason to continue learning and playing.
Gold, Talents and Progression
We wanted every completed stage to feel meaningful. That brought Gold, the in-game currency earned through play, and Talents, the permanent upgrade system. Earn Gold and invest it in abilities for later stages: additional damage, critical hit potential and other combat-related perks.
Players can choose their priorities and gradually become stronger. Should you pursue more direct damage, improve critical hits, or upgrade something that supports your preferred strategy? Meaningful decisions add depth beyond each individual stage. Every stage is another opportunity to improve.

GOALS — Small Achievements, Big Motivation
We also added GOALS: ongoing objectives that reward progression and give players additional reasons to return. Reaching milestones, defeating enemies, creating successful chains and improving Talents all contribute to progress.
With daily bonuses and Gold rewards, these systems make smaller achievements count. What started as a minimal bouncing-ball prototype gradually grew into a complete arcade experience with its own progression and rewards.
Designed to Be Approachable Across Generations
We wanted an accessible game for people of different ages and skill levels, subject to the store’s official age rating. It does not ask for complicated controls or long tutorials. Aim. Shoot. Bounce. Create chains. Win.
Casual players can enjoy colorful action, puzzle fans can plan moves, and experienced gamers can experiment with strategies and Talents. It fits both quick sessions and longer play. For age suitability, please refer to the current Google Play listing.
From Testing to Google Play
Bringing a game to publication takes more than finishing gameplay. CHAIN: Silly Balls went through testing, difficulty tuning, performance work and many rounds of polish. We worked on visual effects, sound effects for Gold and hits, stronger MASTER moments, menus, animations, reward logic and navigation.
Some features improved, others were simplified or removed because they disrupted the flow. With every adjustment we asked the same question: does this make the game better to play?
Following tests, CHAIN: Silly Balls launched on Google Play for Android in 2026. It is free to play, with optional rewarded advertising for certain in-game benefits, including temporary gameplay bonuses, extra rewards, Gold rewards and Talent progress. No forced interstitial ads are used in the current release.
Rydl Games — Independent Development, Creative Freedom
CHAIN: Silly Balls was created under Rydl Games, an independent game development brand in the Czech Republic. For an independent developer, game creation includes game design, code, UI, art, animations, audio, testing, optimization, release and feedback. Every detail is part of a bigger whole.
Seeing a personal idea turn into a playable game that people around the world can discover is a powerful motivation. CHAIN: Silly Balls represents experimentation, refinement, creative decisions and passion for entertaining games.
What’s Next for CHAIN: Silly Balls?
A Google Play release is a milestone, not necessarily the end of the journey. There is always room for balancing, technical refinements, improvements and new ideas. Player feedback can guide future decisions.
Our aim is to keep the game enjoyable, approachable and satisfying: something that players are happy to return to, where every successful combination can feel rewarding.
One Ball. Endless Chains. Pure Fun.
